Project Description

Clover Park Technical College - CAMT

Location: Lakewood, WA

Architect: Schacht/Aslani Architects

General Contractor: Mortenson Construction

Completion: Summer 2019

Clover Park’s Center for Advanced Materials Testing is intended to be a star attraction at the campus for enticing new students, teachers, and industry specialists to the college. The building specializes in applied technology education and creates a modern foundation necessary to ensure graduates are prepared to jump straight into their full-time careers. Materials development is housed in one of the three wings of the building and includes CNC machinery, manufacturing equipment and non-destructive testing. The other wing is devoted to research and includes mechatronics, a digital collaboration lab, a computer lab, conference rooms, and facility offices. The third wing is a multi-purpose space designed to facilitate partnerships, interdisciplinary work and provides a space to exhibit student work. The central core has suspended curtain walls above large overhead doors that open up to allow work to flow directly between lab spaces.

Mission Glass provided early design assist services to keep the architectural aesthetics in-tact, while also focusing on value engineering to ensure the college did not exceed their anticipated budget. Throughout the process Mission Glass worked closely with Mortenson and Schacht-Aslani to propose products and methods of execution that not only reduced costs but helped to deliver the project more than a month ahead of the original anticipated completion date.

Construction Specialties® provided custom designed vertical sunshades at opposing corners of the building, as well as the horizontal sunshades integrated directly into the curtain wall system, which all help to reduce cooling loads in the hot summer months. Technical Glass Products provided several interior all-glass fire-rated entrances to meet life-safety concerns at the main entry lobbies. The curtain wall systems fabricated and installed by Mission Glass were all part of Kawneer’s® 1600UT chassis, which incorporated Vitro® Solarban 60 high performance glass fabricated by Hartung Glass® out of Seattle.

Mission Glass was proud to be a small part in updating the Clover Park Campus to allow them to evolve and adapt to the rapidly changing technical fields present in all the industries that are at the backbone of our day to day processes.
