Located in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, DATA 1 was another opportunity for us to collaborate with Pennon Construction to deliver a unique project to enhance the new feel of this continually-growing area of Seattle. Mission Glass was involved early in the process, providing design-assist services to the architect and owner to select the correct mix of products that not only met the design intent, but also allowed integration between numerous design elements. One of these primary elements was the Terra Cotta Baguette system that is entirely suspended from the curtain wall encasing the main stairwell along N 34th Street.

Levels 2-5 were provided as Kawneer 1600 Screw Spline curtain wall that was pre-fabricated and pre-glazed into unitized panels at Mission Glass’ facility in Tumwater. Pre-fabrication not only improved quality, but also allowed for shorter install duration on site to enclose the building as quickly as possible from the abundantly wet Northwest winter. The interior courtyard included numerous Nanawall SL70 folding doors that allowed the entire core of Level 2 to open up to the exterior environment. McGrory Glass provided the custom blue-tinted vertical glass sunshades, while Construction Specialties provided the perforated horizontal sunshades. Both of these components were integrated directly into the curtain wall system to provide visual interest, while also dramatically reducing the cooling loads during summer months. Northwestern Industries provided the rest of the glazing on the project, including the custom frit canopies and accent panels scattered throughout the South elevation.

DATA 1 achieves a modern timeless design, using clean lines, natural materials and the benefits of scale to provide additional character and warmth to fit right in with the diverse Fremont neighborhood.
