The Eastside Community Center was developed to fulfill the need for residents to gather and celebrate the cultural diversity of this region of Tacoma. Many of the previous resources that had been a part of this area have been downsized or closed over the years. Metro Parks Tacoma, along with many other partnering agencies who provided funding and support, fulfilled the need by delivering this project that Mission Glass was proud to have been a part of.
This is our second aquatic center designed by ARC Architects, which meant we were suited to deliver a successful project that had all the charismatic look and feel of our previous project, the Rainier Beach Community Center. The crisp clean lines and unique sloping geometry of the white-painted mullions really delivers a pristine look to this project that breaks up the traditional linear lines you would see on a typical project. The bright red “love” color of the 3-form Koda XT™ and Chroma™ acrylic panels adds a pop of color to the exterior, in the form of vertical sunshades, as well as the interior, as an accent panel used as risers on the main stairwell. There were also numerous tints and shading elements provided in the glazing fabricated by Northwestern Industries utilizing Vitro low-e coated glass. We look forward to seeing this facility bring a much needed boost to the area and provide a safe place for recreation, as well as meeting space for the community for many years to come.
