The Mercer Island School District approved this project to expand on the existing middle school by adding 14 new classrooms and lab spaces, common and cafeteria, gymnasium, music rooms, and administrative space. The expansion was intended to help alleviate the stress of an increasing number of enrollments that were expected to happen in the coming years and provide ample space to prevent overcrowding of classrooms as these new students arrived to the area. The project itself utilized EFCO 5600 series curtain walls and their thermally-broken storefront systems in both a 4-1/2″ and 6-1/2″ depth; all of which incorporated Guardian’s high-performing SN-68 low emissivity coating to reduce energy loads. This project marked the first time Mission Glass had the opportunity to work in the Mercer Island area. We were thankful to expand our increasing coverage area and the opportunity to deliver another high-quality school to this growing area of Washington.
