This project is a kickstart to Washington's clean energy transition and is one of its first zero-energy projects. The design incorporates several renewable energies to help cement Washington's role as a national leader in energy efficiency and embodied carbon reductions to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from state operations. The facility provides long-overdue laboratory facilities to carry out the critical processes needed to protect the health and safety of Washington's workers and food supply, shared by Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) and Labor and Industries (L&I).
The curtain wall systems from Mission Glass incorporated vertical and horizontal fins that help to outline the window openings and create deep shadow lines at the exterior facade. The horizontal sunshades provide relief from overhead sun in the summer, but help light flood interior spaces in the winter when the sun's path is lower in elevation. The dark facade finishes are accented with brilliant pops of color through the use of varying colors of Opaci-Coat 300 spandrel glass designed to mimic the hues of native plant species.
We love to be a part of cutting-edge projects that are forward thinking and meet obligations to the health and well-being of future generations. The construction industry is poised to make limitless advancements in these areas, and Mission Glass stands ready to adopt and adapt to the new technologies and practices involved with helping pave the way for sustainability in all aspects of the work we deliver.
