Vashon Center for the Arts is a multi-purpose performance space for the art community on Vashon Island. The center serves as both a gallery for local artists, as well as, a theater and public event space. The design of the structure focuses on natural elements designed to mimic the Pacific Northwest. Mission Glass was a key player in the final look and feel of the center from both the inside looking out and the outside looking in. We custom built a Kawneer surface-applied curtain wall system that fastened directly to the face of large glue-laminated wood beams that sat under a large gable roof structure.
The vast expanses of glass allow nearly the entire interior of the building to be flooded with natural light, as well as provide an ambiance at night when the interior light radiates into the dark evening sky. This was a great project for Mission Glass, and we were fortunate to have had the opportunity to provide a centerpiece for the tight-knit community on Vashon Island. We had residents forming a small audience daily throughout the installation process, in awe at the new landmark being constructed in front of their eyes. We hope Vashon Island enjoys their new Center for the Arts for many generations, and that we have the chance to come back again soon!
